专辑介绍

Noted author Robert Gordon on Susan
Marshall's new album ''Little Red'' - ''The bridges built by Susan Marshall's
Little Red cross oceans, oceanic
expanses of time, and disparate musical styles. Though rooted solidly in the present day, with hip European sonic loops and technological tricks, the album conjures Memphis of the 1960s and 70s, specifically South Memphis where Stax and Hi cut funky grooves that continue to propel the Memphis vapors decades later.
It s an evocation, not an imitation. It s
today, built on yesterday. Little Red is the third release by Memphis soul singer Susan Marshall, and follows
2005's Firefly and 2003's Honeymouth.
The album contains an eclectic mix of
Marshall originals, alongside a few choice covers: ''Don't Let Me Down'', ''Going To Town'' and ''Femme Fatale.'' Special guests include Lucinda Williams, Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs, Gutter Twins) and soul legend Teenie Hodges (Al Green). Little Red was produced by Jeff Powell (Afghan
Whigs, Bob Dylan, Tonic) and Henry Olsen (Primal Scream, Beth Orton, Nico) and was recorded mainly in London and Memphis. Susan's resume boasts studio and/or stage time with the likes of Keith Richards, Lenny
Kravitz, Primal Scream, Steve Earle,
Sharon Jones, Steve Cropper, & the North Mississippi Allstars. In 2006 she toured internationally as part of Cat Power and the Memphis Rhythm Band, appearing on Austin City Limits, The Late Show with David Letterman and on the hit BBC show Later... with Jools Holland.
