While it's counterintuitive that Colbie Caillat's second album is titled Breakthrough, as opposed to her 2007 debut, Coco, it makes a little more sense when you consider Caillat's process for recording her sophomore album. Caillat set up a writing camp in Hawaii and invited past collaborators Jason Reeves and Mikal Blue, along with songwriter and American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi. The result was 50 songs, 20 of which were recorded, and 12 of which were placed on Breakthrough, based on fan reaction during a performance of the recorded songs. The Breakthrough that Caillat's had seems to be that pop music is a business.
